The JF Public Adjusters Claim Process

These are the regular steps that your claim will follow once you enlist JF Public Adjusters to manage your claim.

  • 1

Free Claim Review and Consultation: Our initial contact usually starts with you reaching out for a free claim review and consultation. In this session, which may be in person or over the phone depending on your preference, we discuss the circumstances surrounding your claim, the damage to your property, and your policy. We may request photos and videos of the damage, as well as a copy of your policy, to review your coverage.

  • 2
Letter of Representation: When you decide to hire us, we prepare a Letter of Representation which you will need to sign. This outlines the terms and conditions of the service that we will provide to you, including our fee. You can reach more about public adjuster fees in our FAQs page.
  • 3
Claim Lodgement: We report the claim to your insurance provider, if you haven’t already. We also obtain the name/s and contact details of the adjuster/s assigned to your claim.
  • 4
Inspection: Your insurer will usually send out an adjuster to personally inspect the property. We attend the inspection on your behalf.
  • 5
Documentation: This may be the most important part of your claim. It is essential to document the damage and the value of the loss correctly. Your insurer may also request certain documents to review your claim.

    These documents include:

    • photos and videos of the damage
    • repair estimate
    • mitigation estimate, drying logs, and mold reports (we coordinate with your mitigation provider)
    • damaged contents inventory
    • lease agreement
    • HOA by-laws
    • plumbing bill
    • heating bill
    • documents related to temporary accommodation, if any
    • records of the business’s income before and after the interruption, such as sales records, tac returns, and financial statements
    • records of ongoing expenses that the business incurred during the interruption, such as rent, utilities, payroll, and other operating expenses
    • records of any additional expenses that the business incurred as a result of the interruption, such as the cost of temporary equipment, relocation costs, or extra labor costs

    and so on.

  • 6
Negotiation: We go into extensive discussions with the insurance company’s adjuster regarding the extent of the damage and the value of the loss. Our goal is to ensure that you are compensated fairly, allowing you to pay for repairs or replacements.
  • 7

Settlement: In the final stage of the claim process, we prepare the Proof of Loss which outlines the details of the claim as well as the compensation agreed upon with the insurance company. You will need to sign and notarize this document.

This time frame for this process depends on various factors such as the complexity of your claim, the responsiveness of your insurance company’s representatives, the amount of the documentation required, etc.
